Strathnaver Museum developed the project with Fèis air an Oir, which is a traditional music movement that teaches both young people and adults. They have a wealth of experience engaging people in traditional music.

We used music, particularly bagpipe music, to work with communities and in particular young people to explore the broad impact and legacy of WWI on families and communities within the north of Scotland and its continuing resonance on modern life.

In order to achieve this we:

· commissioned research to examine the social and military role of music, particularly bagpipe music;

· Commissioned musicians to restore the music which is identified through the above research and present it to a new audience;

· Commissioned artistic expertise to produce recordings and video footage of the findings for the Museum archive;

· And commission musicians to write new material inspired by the findings of the project.
